From Cape to Cape, a gravel loop through the Cederberg, the Karoo and the Swartberg, all the way to the shores of the Indian Ocean.

DAY 2 : Cape Town → Cederberg

DAY 1 : Europe → Cape Town

Tu quittes l’hiver, tu atterris en plein été. On t’attend à l’aéroport du Cap, ta moto est prête. Réglages, briefing, présentations. Le soir, premier dîner au pied de la Montagne de la Table. Demain, place au gravier.

RAID DETAILS

DAY 4 : Lamberts Baai → Tankwa

We turn our backs on the ocean and head inland. The Tankwa is the driest corner of the country. Straight trails to the horizon, dust, and not a soul in sight. At night, we sleep in the middle of the desert, in total silence.

DAY 3 : Cederberg → Lamberts Baai

We come down from the mountains towards the west coast. The valleys open up and the air turns salty. Late in the day, the Atlantic appears at Lambert’s Bay, a small, windswept fishing port. On tonight’s menu: local crayfish.

DAY 6 : Swartberg → Swartberg

In the morning, the bravest head out on a spectacular out-and-back track. The others enjoy the lodge. In the afternoon, everyone meets up for a guided tour of the reserve. A day to catch your breath before hitting the road again.

DAY 5 : Tankwa → Swartberg

We cross the Great Karoo heading east. Fast trails, isolated farms, a huge sky. Late in the day, the wall of the Swartberg rises ahead of us. In the evening, a traditional meal in a charming lodge.

DAY 8 : Oudtshoorn → Barrydale

We ride due west across the Little Karoo. Dry valleys, forgotten passes and sleepy villages. The trails wind between isolated farms and ochre mountains. Late in the day, Barrydale welcomes us at the foot of the mountains.

DAY 7 : Swartberg → Oudtshoorn

We cross the range via the Swartberg Pass, a legendary gravel pass. Tight hairpins, stone walls and plunging views over the Karoo. We end the day in Oudtshoorn, drink in hand, next to the elephants.

DAY 10 : Arniston → Franschhoek

We leave the ocean behind and head north on the Overberg trails. Little by little, the mountains return and the vineyards take over. Late in the day, we reach Franschhoek, a village founded by French settlers, in the heart of the winelands.

DAY 9 : Barrydale → Arniston

We cross the mountains and ride down into the Overberg. Wheat fields roll all the way to the Indian Ocean. In the evening, we park the bikes in Arniston, a fishing village of whitewashed houses. The southern tip of Africa is just around the corner.

DAY 12 : Franschhoek → Le Cap

Final stage. We cross the last passes and Table Mountain appears in the distance. We close the loop in Cape Town, where we celebrate the end of the raid together.

DAY 11 : Franschhoek → Franschhoek

A day to savour the valley. In the morning, a visit to the Franschhoek Motor Museum and its two- and four-wheeled legends. In the afternoon, we head out to explore the vineyards, with a wine tasting.

DAY 13 : Cape Town → Europe

One last breakfast before heading to the airport, with Karoo dust in your pockets and a head full of memories. Everyone catches their flight home, already thinking about the next trail.
